Events, Talks & Workshops

Cultivating spaces to normalise conversations about Death & Dying

Created by The Dying Well and facilitated by Chi Chi Menendez, these talks and workshops  exist to create spaces where death, dying, and grief can be met with openness, care, and meaning.  Conceived in response to the needs of individuals and  in consultation with the community, each project invites a deeper engagement with death as a natural, sacred, and relational part of life.

Whether through education, ritual, art, or dialogue, these offerings are designed to support people in navigating end-of-life experiences with more clarity, courage, and compassion. They offer room to speak honestly, feel deeply, honour what has been lost, as well as  prepare for what lies ahead. In a culture that often avoids or medicalises death, these projects restore the possibility for presence, ritual and connection.

They are an invitation to slow down, to remember, and to participate in the shared work of reweaving death back into the fabric of life.

Death Conversations

These community-based events and workshops are designed to open meaningful space around death, dying, and grief.  Death Conversations are  gatherings that foster open dialogue, offering a supportive environment for people to speak, listen, and reflect on death as part of life. Each session explores a different theme,  from caregiving to legacy, from fear to transformation,  allowing participants to share stories, ask questions, and build collective understanding.

Death Matters

Death Matters is an educational talk and workshop designed to provide clear, compassionate guidance on end-of-life planning and death literacy. It offers participants practical tools alongside emotional and spiritual frameworks to help navigate choices around death with greater confidence and awareness. This offering is suitable for all stages of life, not just elders, and can be adapted for various groups or community settings.

Death Matters is a structured educational resource  designed to deepen death literacy through a range of rotating themes and accessible resources. Topics include end-of-life planning, legal and practical preparation and the role of community in dying well.

Ritual & the Art of Farewell

Ritual & the Art of Farewell is a creative, hands-on workshop that invites participants to engage with grief, remembrance, and transition through the language of ritual. In these sessions, we work with symbolic materials, gesture, and intention to craft personalised rituals of farewell,  whether for a loved one, a life chapter, or something left unspoken. All of these offerings are grounded in slowness, respect, and shared humanity. They are created to meet people where they are and to nurture a sense of community, meaning, and care around one of life’s most universal and tender experiences.

Testimonials

informative and comforting

I have attended four workshops on Death Conversations facilitated by Chi Chi.  These have included an End-of-Live Planning checklist and Rituals and Ceremonies for deceased loved ones.

The workshops have been very informative, creative and interactive. Chi Chi is a sensitive, compassionate facilitator on the subject of death and dying. She brings a healing and acceptance quality to the subject of death and dying in a comforting and peaceful environment.

I feel empowered

I was impressed by Chi Chi's clear understanding of what's important  in the process of unravelling the paperwork involved with making a will, and last wishes and bequests....so I already appreciated Chi Chi as an educator, in her "Death Conversations", but in our private consultation, she helped me to recognize  the importance of making sure that there's no place for any confusion and of making my wishes  clear so my children don't have to grapple with problems or ambiguity when they're grieving...and that empowered  me to finally take action.

What a great relief to have it all clear and completed...thank you Chi Chi!

a great experience

I want to start off by saying thank you for organizing the Death & Dying Expo over the weekend. What an a great experience and a big ripple in the effort to normalizing death and bringing it home. I couldn't stop sharing with my friends and the conversation opened up into profound sharing and deepening of our own relationships as we shared our own personal relationship with death. Amazing.
