The Dying Well is a death literacy project and podcast founded and hosted by Deathwalker and artist Chi Chi Menendez.
Rooted in the Northern Rivers, the project emerged from a deep desire to create accessible, inclusive, and creative spaces where conversations about death are cultivated and normalised. These spaces aim to inform, inspire, and empower individuals, families, and communities to engage more consciously with the realities of death and dying.
Through public events, community gatherings, and hands-on workshops, The Dying Well offers opportunities to explore a wide spectrum of end-of-life topics, from practical planning and legacy work to creative grief rituals, ceremony, and ancestral remembrance. Each offering is designed to help cultivate personal agency, emotional resilience, and a deeper connection to the cycles of life and death.
Drawing from years of experience in both creative practice and Deathwalking Chi Chi brings a deeply personal and poetic lens to this work, blending the practical with the sacred.
The Dying Well podcast is dedicated to exploring death not as a singular event, but as a deeply human, spiritual, and cultural experience that shapes every life.
The series thoughtfully examines the many dimensions of end-of-life, from the practical to the profound. Each episode features candid conversations with death care practitioners, spiritual leaders, artists, academics, and individuals with lived experience, offering a diverse and compassionate lens on how we prepare for, grieve, and make meaning of death.
What sets The Dying Well apart is its uniquely creative and ritual-based approach to death literacy. The podcast weaves together practical knowledge with emotional depth, ancestral wisdom, and cultural storytelling. It reclaims death as a space not only for planning and reflection, but for ceremony, community, and creative transformation.
With honesty, reverence, and curiosity, The Dying Well holds space for the emotional, psychological, and spiritual landscape of death and dying, inviting listeners to consider what it truly means to die, and to live, with presence, purpose, and care.
With honesty, reverence, and curiosity, These are stories that remind us of our shared mortality and offer guidance for walking the path with greater courage, clarity, and agency.

The Dying Well hosts a growing series of community education events and workshops designed to foster death literacy, encourage meaningful dialogue, and support people in navigating end-of-life matters with confidence, clarity, and compassion.
These offerings create accessible and inclusive spaces where people can explore death not as something to fear or avoid, but as a natural and meaningful part of life.
Whether it's a practical workshop on end-of-life planning, a community conversation circle, or a creative ritual gathering, each event invites participants to engage with death in a way that is personal, culturally sensitive, and empowering.
The intention is to demystify the dying process, equip people with knowledge and tools, and nurture the emotional and spiritual capacity to face death, our own and others'.

We believe in a culture where conversations about death are normalised, open, compassionate, and creative; where people are empowered to plan, grieve, and die with clarity and dignity; and where communities can hold one another through life’s most tender thresholds.
We imagine a world where death literacy is woven into everyday life through education, ritual, storytelling, and support.

We walk beside, not in front of, those navigating death, dying, and bereavement, offering a grounded and heart-centred approach that respects diverse beliefs, identities, and traditions.
We also believe in the importance of reclaiming death from institutional systems and returning it to families, communities, and individuals. With transparency, choice, and kindness at our core, we advocate for death care that is relational, creative, and human.

Through workshops, talks, community gatherings, and The Dying Well podcast, we offer a space for people to explore death as part of life.
